Author Guidelines

SCRIPTURA aims to serve as a national and international forum to disseminate research output, theoretical discussion and science development in the field of communication studies. This journal covers several themes in communication, such as mass communication, public relations, print and online journalism, strategic communication, political communication, and other related areas. 

SCRIPTURA accepts the following types of articles: Original Research Article, Short Communication, Case Study, Systematic Review / Meta-Analysis, and Theoretical Article with Empirical Analysis.

Submission

Author is encouraged to follow the submission guidelines.

Additional provisions:

  • The manuscript must be submitted in .docx (Microsoft Word) format and prepared using the SCRIPTURA journal template, which can be downloaded from the Journal Template menu (https://scriptura.petra.ac.id/index.php/iko/template).
  • Manuscripts are submitted online through the SCRIPTURA Open Journal Systems (OJS) portal. Submissions sent by email will not be processed, except where the author experiences technical difficulties (see Online Submission Procedure).
  • Manuscripts that do not follow these guidelines and the journal template may be returned to the author before entering the review process.

Theme

The themes should cover the scope of communication science. It must be novel and updated with the recent communication science development.

Additional provisions:

  • The manuscript must clearly state its novelty (state of the art) and the research gap it addresses in relation to previous studies.
  • Manuscripts outside the Focus and Scope of the journal will be rejected at the initial screening stage.

Conditions

  1. The accepted and reviewed paper should be original and has not been published in other scientific journals.
  2. The paper is research findings and literature reviews about communication science.

Additional provisions:

  • The manuscript is not currently under review or consideration by any other journal or media and will not be submitted elsewhere while it is under review in SCRIPTURA.
  • The manuscript has not been published in any other language (including as a translation).
  • The manuscript is free from plagiarism, including self-plagiarism.
  • The names and order of authorship have been agreed upon by all authors. All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the research and the manuscript.
  • All references cited have been verified by the authors for their existence and relevance; fabricated or unverifiable references will result in rejection.
  • Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): the manuscript must be written by the author(s). AI tools may be used for language editing (grammar, spelling, punctuation). Any other use of AI tools (e.g., generating text, analysing data, producing images) must be fully disclosed in the Research Method section and in the AI Declaration statement. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Language

The language used is Bahasa Indonesia and/or English

Additional provisions:

  • Manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia must follow the standard Indonesian spelling rules (Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia yang Disempurnakan/EYD). Manuscripts in English should use consistent American or British English throughout.
  • Foreign terms that are not standard in the language of the manuscript must be written in italics.
  • If the manuscript is accepted, the author(s) must be willing to have the manuscript proofread when requested by the editor.

Format

General layout (additional provisions, following the SCRIPTURA template):

  • Manuscripts must be written using the SCRIPTURA template (https://scriptura.petra.ac.id/index.php/iko/template). Manuscript length: 5,000–9,000 words, including abstract and references.
  • Paper size A4 (21 × 29.7 cm), one column. Margins: top 2.5 cm, bottom 1.5 cm, left 2 cm, right 2 cm.
  • Body text: Times New Roman 11 pt, single spaced, justified. Each paragraph consists of at least two sentences.
  • Main section headings are numbered and written in CAPITAL LETTERS, Century Gothic 11 pt, bold, left aligned (e.g., 1. PENDAHULUAN / 1. INTRODUCTION).
  • Sub-headings are numbered and written in Capital Each Word, Century Gothic 11 pt, bold, left aligned (e.g., 4.1 Sub-heading; 4.1.1 Sub-sub-heading). Sub-headings should be used sparingly.
  • The manuscript consists of the following sections (in Bahasa Indonesia / English):
    • PENDAHULUAN / INTRODUCTION
    • TINJAUAN PUSTAKA / LITERATURE REVIEW
    • METODE PENELITIAN / RESEARCH METHOD
    • HASIL DAN PEMBAHASAN / RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
    • KESIMPULAN / CONCLUSION
    • UCAPAN TERIMA KASIH / ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (if any)
    • DAFTAR PUSTAKA / REFERENCES (not numbered)
  • Footnotes and endnotes are not allowed; explanations should be integrated into the body text.
  • Direct quotations of 40 words or more are written as a separate block, indented from the left margin, single spaced, without quotation marks.

Titles: Written in Bahasa Indonesia and English

Authors: Written without academic titles, must include author's affiliations and email address.

Abstract: Written in Bahasa Indonesia and English. Maximum 150–200 words for each abstract. Minimum 3 keywords.

Introduction/Pendahuluan: In this section, the author must elaborate research background, problem statement, reseach purpose and benefits.

Literature Review/Tinjauan Pustaka: Elaboration on theories and corresponding literatures.

Research Method/Metode Penelitian: Contains method used for research.

Results and Discussion/Hasil dan Pembahasan: Contains elaborated explanation on research findings and discussion.

Conclusion/Kesimpulan: Conclusion will answer the problem statement.

Reference/Daftar referensi: APA format of referencing.

Plagiarism Screening

Plagiarism is a threat to the ethical side of research reporting. Prior to submit the article to scriptura, authors are encouraged to screen the manuscript through plagiarism screening tools.

Additional Statements

After the Conclusion and before the References, the author(s) must include the following statements (write "Not applicable" or "None" where relevant)
